About Me

I've been an At Home Dad since 2010 and have two children. Like many SAHDs out there, I took on this role by choice. I had a job and quit to take care of my daughter. I treat this gig like a "real" job. It's a tough but ultimately rewarding job to influence my children in such an intimate way and I can't imagine doing anything else. I feel most fortunate that my wife has worked so hard that we can afford to have the lifestyle we do.

As far as food goes, I grew up in Atlanta so I have a weakness for Southern fare, but I really like making foods from other cultures and exploring different techniques. I love making complicated recipes so that I know what corners to cut when making them again and I'm a sucker for traditional and iconic dishes.

I really do my best to make the recipes step-by-step so that more dads (or moms) out there can attempt some recipes, to maybe break from their traditional menu and try some interesting food. None of these recipes really take specialized tools or skills, just some time.

I like to start early and make the components of the meal throughout the day between naps, chores, errands, and lunch then throw everything together for dinner. It gives you the time to make longer meals without having to sit in front of the stove for 2 hours right before dinner.

I hope you'll give some of these recipes a try, especially if you're a SAHD.

***I'm not posting as much as I used to, as I've gone back to school full time, but I do update my Facebook page fairly frequently, so if you're interested, head over there and see what I've been cooking!

  2. Love this blog. I'm not a SAHD but Mrs. O and I share the cooking duties, so I'm always looking for inspiration. Glad to see a fellow Simpson Middle School alum doing such cool stuff!

  6. Cool site, Phil. My wife works her butt off, so I do all the cooking (plus, she's admittedly not a very good cook). We've discussed the possibility of the SAHD lifestyle before, but it doesn't work for us now. However, I love to cook and like how you have this laid out. Hope all is well!
